What it is:

By using the Rejuvapen by RefineUSA, a specifically designed and manufactured sterile device cleared by the FDA, thousands of controlled microscopic needle incisions are made in the papillary and reticular dermis. This action induces a controlled injury which triggers the body’s natural wound healing cascade which releases growth factors, stimulates collagen production, and promotes the formation of new microvascular networks which has shown to improve skin tone, texture, acne scaring, and overall aesthetic appearance of the skin by 60-80%. When platelet rich plasma (PRP) that is procured from your own blood or Exosomes are added to your microneedling treatment, the effects are enhanced as PRP and Exosomes promote healing and further stimulates the fibroblasts that produce collagen in your skin (review "additional information" section at the bottom of the page for more information on PRP and Exosomes). Microneedling can be done on the face, neck, décolleté, back, along with other areas of the body. A light chemical peel and aftercare skincare kit ($150 worth of skincare products) is included to further enhance the treatment and leave you with the most desirable results. For best results, it is recommended to complete a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, after which time you will continue to see results for 6-12 months then may need a treatment annually to keep up with results.

Before your appointment:

7-14 days prior to your treatment, please stop the use of skin care products with hydroquinone and Retin-A, avoid waxing or other forms of skin exfoliation. In addition, discontinue tanning or the use of self-tanners in the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment. As always, it is recommended that you use a high-quality sunscreen, you will need to re-schedule your treatment if you become sunburned and the cancellation policy still applies.

At your appointment:

Please consider coming to your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face, this will give us more time to focus on your treatment. Your provider will start by numbing your face with topical lidocaine. While your face is numbing up, (if you have elected to add PRP to your treatment) your provider will gently draw one small tube of blood (more if you are having multiple or large areas treated). The blood gets spun in a centrifuge and your provider will use the top "liquid gold" layer as a slip for your treatment. Your provider then thoroughly cleans your skin and gets to work. Depending on your pain tolerance you likely will not feel much of the actual procedure due to the lidocaine. The needles uses are not much thicker than a strand of hair, and only go into your skin 0.25-2.5 millimeters depending on the area being treated. After your treatment your provider will put soothing cream and a gentle chemical peel on your face and send you on your way with a goodie bag of aftercare products and aftercare instructions.

After your appointment:

Your skin may feel a bit tight and you may experience a mild burning or warm sensation in the areas treated, this is fairly common after microneedling and chemical peels and can be remedied by using a fan until the sensation dissipates and the peel neutralizes itself. Some slight swelling is not unusual, and expect for your skin to begin peeling between day 1-3 after your treatment. Your skin may look pink and feel tight and dry for 5-9 days, this is normal and you will soon be glowing! Please visit the Aftercare tab for full aftercare instructions which will also be given to you at the time of your appointment.

Additional Info About Medical Microneedling:

For PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient during their appointment at Apogee, it is then spun in a special centrifuge to separate its components (Red Blood Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, Platelet Poor Plasma and Buffy Coat), the PRP (gold layer on top) is then collected from the tube and used for treatment. When PRP is injected or used in conjunction with microneedling, it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade. As the platelets organize in the treatment area they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair the damaged area. As a result, new collagen begins to develop. As the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the treatment area. When treating injured or sun and time damaged tissue, it can induce a remodeling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state.  The safety of PRP has been established for over 20 years for its wound healing properties and it's proven effectiveness has extended across multiple medical specialties including cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, podiatry, ENT, neurosurgery, dental and maxillofacial surgery (dental implants and sinus elevations), urology, dermatology (chronic wound healing), ophthalmology, and cosmetic surgery. PRP's emergence into aesthetics and skin rejuvenation began in 2004 in Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America in countries such as The United Kingdom, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Argentina to name a few.
